MELVIN JOHNSON
ROFF-Services for Melvin L. Johnson, 82, of Roff, are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Fitzhugh Baptist Church. Officiating is Pastor Steve Wilburn. Burial follows at East Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died Friday, April 19, 2013 at his home. He was born February 18, 1931 in Roff, Oklahoma to William Clay and Ruby Ellen Johnson. He attended Roff schools and obtained a Mechanical Engineering degree from Oklahoma A&M (now OSU) and a Master of Science degree from the University of Idaho.
He attended ROTC in college and following graduation, was called active duty in the U.S. Air Force. During his service, he married Susan C. Whitt on October 14, 1955. After an honorable discharge, he spent his professional career working in the field of nuclear engineering for General Electric and then Kansas Gas and Electric. Mr. Johnson was known for being an energetic, hard-worker who loved projects and persevered in every task at hand, providing well for his family and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Clay and Ruby Ellen Johnson; five brothers, Albert, Lloyd, Wayne, Charles and Maurice Johnson; and two sisters, Rudean Clifton and Mildred Condren.
Survivors include his wife Susan Whitt Johnson and their six children; Laura Johnson Rowe and husband Bill of Lexington, Kentucky, Robert P. Johnson and wife Ana of Santa Cruz, California, Elizabeth Johnson Fitch and husband David of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jennifer Johnson Orr and husband Rueben of Castle Rock, Colorado, Amy Johnson Withers and husband Chris of Goddard, Kansas and Sarah Jean Johnson of Beverly Hills, California; twenty three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother Corbin Johnson and wife Irene of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Lovella Williams and husband Bill of Roff, Oklahoma and Jo Harris and husband Paul of Pell City, Alabama.
Bearers are Bill Rowe, David Fitch, Rueben Orr, Alex Orr, Christopher Withers and Alfred Rothell. Honorary Bearers are Clifford Williams, Haskell Harrison, Edward Tingle, Jack Hudson, Eldon Billings and Bill Williams.
