Maynard Whipple

Graveside services for Maynard H. Whipple, 91, of Ada are 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Vamoosa Cemetery. His grandson, Artie Hudson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Whipple passed away Monday, October 12, 2020 at an Ada hospital. He was born August 9, 1929 at Webster City, Iowa to Walter and Harriett Idella Fisher Whipple. He graduated from high school in Iowa and moved to Ft. Sill in Lawton in the late 1940's. He attended Weatherford College and Baptist Seminary.

Maynard married Ila Rae Garrett December 16, 1950 in Lawton. She preceded him in death June 30, 2003 in Norman. He later married Roseann Guffey June 7, 2009 in Ada. Mr. Whipple was a Southern Baptist minister. He also worked as a mechanic throughout his life to supplement his pastoral income. He was a member of the Ada Baptist Temple in Ada and was a Home Missionary for the Southern Baptist Convention serving Native Americans in Apache and Clinton, OK in the early 1960's. He pastored in Vamoosa, Fittstown, Kingston, Sapulpa, Little Kansas and Mandeville, AR., as well as many interim pastorates. He owned his own mechanics shop in Lawton in the early '60s and later in the late '90's and early 2000's in Ada with his son David. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Convention Ministers. Mr. Whipple had also served in the U. S. Army in the late 1940's and early 1950's.

Survivors include his wife, Roseann, of the home; daughter, Harriett Hudson and husband Art, Konawa; son, Craig Whipple and wife Melissa, Ada; two step-sons, Marlin Guffey and wife Glenda, Stuart and Steve Guffey and wife Rosetta, Eufaula; a step-daughter, Touia Vaughn and husband Stanley, Magnolia, AR; brother, George Whipple and wife, Carol, Eldora, IA; five grandchildren, Gloria Cloud and husband Leon, Karla Davis and husband Keith, Artie Hudson, Jr. and wife Emily, Janesa West and Kimi Whipple; ten great-grandchildren, Derick Reynolds and wife Grace, Aubrey Woodrich, Baylee Woodrich, Cayden Woodrich, Cole Davis, Abby Davis, Anna Hudson, Roy Hudson, Karlee West and Wyatt West; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ila Whipple; two sons, David Keith Whipple and Kevin Wayne Whipple; a sister; two brothers, and a granddaughter, Laurie Woodrich.

Bearers will be Burt Dailey, Tom Blackwell, Artie Hudson, Marlin Guffey, Terry Factor and Jeremy Guffey. Honorary bearers will be grandson-in-law, Dave Woodrich and great-grandsons.
