MATTIE RUTH WHITLOCK
ELIZABETHTOWN, KY-Services for Mattie Ruth Whitlock, 88, of Elizabethtown, KY, formerly of Ada are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 29th at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Harold Ware will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whitlock died Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in Elizabethtown, KY. She was born November 20, 1923 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to James David and Edna A. Wilemon Mahaffey and moved to Ada at a young age. She graduated from Ada High School.
She married Howard A. Whitlock on August 4, 1947 in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death on November 10, 1997 in Ada. Mrs. Whitlock was a secretary at East Central University for 10 years and retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation after 26 years of service. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Ada and a member of the Mature Melody Makers at the church. She served as a judge at art shows, volunteered with the Valley View Regional Hospital Auxiliary, served 17 years as a Pontotoc County precinct official, and was a member of the Pontotoc County Historical and Genealogical Society.
She moved to Elizabethtown from Ada four and half-years ago. Mrs. Whitlock resided at Atria where she served as an Atria Ambassador, sang with the Merry Makers, and participated in many activities and numerous trips. She attended Northside Baptist Church and enjoyed her Sunday school class tremendously.
Survivors include a son, Charles Whitlock and his wife Jan of Conroe, TX; a daughter, Claudia Richardson and her husband Jim of Elizabethtown, KY; three grandchildren, Alicia Richardson Bell and her husband Mike of Bowling Green, KY, David Richardson and his wife Michelle of Little Rock, AR, and Steven Unverzagt of Nashville; and four great grandchildren, Alexis and Madison Bell of Bowling Green, Aidan Linville and Caleb Richardson, both of Little Rock.
She was preceded in death by parents; her husband; a brother, Raymond Mahaffey; and a sister, Enid Leon.
