MARY SUE ROBERTS
ADA-Services for Mary Sue Roberts, 95, Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. Pat Kilby and Rev. John Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
Mrs. Roberts died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at a Davis nursing home. She was born March 14, 1915 at Davis, Oklahoma to Cecil Bayard and Carrie Tom Kelly Pullen. She attended school in Davis and graduated from Davis High School in 1933. She was a graduate of East Central University and had lived in Ada for many years.
Mrs. Roberts was employed as a secretary and traveling Clerical Consultant of insurance claims for 46 years for GAB Business Services, Inc. retiring from them in 1984. She then went to work for Townsend Claim Service where she worked for six years, retiring in 1990. She traveled extensively, working in the handling of insurance claims following disastrous hurricanes, tornadoes and hailstorms over the United States. Due to her knowledge of the insurance industry, she was appointed Deputy Insurance Commissioner of Oklahoma by Joe B. Hunt in September, 1961.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ada, the Naomi Sunday School Class, Prime Timers Club, Mature Melody Makers, Roff Chamber of Commerce, Valley View Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and the Oklahoma Pioneer Club of Insurance Adjusters, of which she was the State Secretary and Treasurer. She worked and assisted in the organization of Pontotoc County Bank of Roff. She was noted for her desire to help others, and trained many new employees on her job. She had worked over 21,000 hours as a volunteer at Valley View Regional Hospital.
She married Jesse Thomas "Tut" Roberts on November 10, 1973, and resided in Roff a number of years. He preceded her in death February 2, 1996.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Laverne Pullen and many nieces and nephews.
Bearers will be her nephews, Jerry Pullen, Craig Pullen, Mark Pullen, Bryan Pullen, Nathan Pullen, Toby Pullen, Paul Walsh and Kel Owens. Honorary bearers will be E. B. Neighbors, Jim Spradley, Reese Scott, Greg Fowler and Herman B. Platt.
