Mary Jo Schoepflin

Services for Mary Jo Schoepflin, 94, of Ada are 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Rollow Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Ada, Rev. Bob Langston will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery at Okemah.

Mrs. Schoepflin passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018 in Ada. She was born December 21, 1923 at Okemah to Jack M. and Lorena Hamilton Stephenson. She graduated from high school, attended East Central College in Ada, Balboa Jr. College in the Canal Zone, Panama and graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts from Cameron University in Lawton.

Mary Jo married Dr. John Roberts in 1944 in Little Rock, AR. Mary Jo and John then moved to Chicago, IL. She worked at the Mercantile Bank as secretary to the President while John went to medical school.

Mary Jo and John traveled to all fifty states, lived in Europe, England, Germany, Panama and traveled to many other countries while John was in the military. They traveled to Italy, France, Scandinavia and Berlin. John Roberts passed away in 1979.

Mary Jo traveled to England and met her 2 nd husband, Ted Learmonth, an Australian sheep rancher. They were married for 11 years and traveled between Australia and Ada. They traveled to Russia, Poland, New Zealand and all over Australia.

Mary Jo lived in Ada for 50 years. She was a past president of the Wednesday Morning Music Club and a member of the Fortnightly Study Club-Drama section. Mary Jo attended the First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School and Golden Agers Class.

Mary Jo married a third time after the death of Ted Learmonth to Adolphe Schoepflin, M.D. They were married eight years before his death in 2007.

Mary Jo was an accomplished seamstress and also knitted, did needlepoint and learned to paint and swim when she was 40.

Survivors include three children, Katherine Roberts, Richard Roberts and Marianne Gwin; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Haley and husband Don; and a sister-in-law, Betty Lou Stephenson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her three husbands; and a brother, Jack Stephenson.

The family would like to thank McCortney Family In Home Care, Victory Home Health, and Mercy Hospital for their care.
