NORMAN-Services for Mary Geraldine "Jerri" Melton, 103, of Norman, formerly of Ada will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rosedale Cemetery in Ada. Rev. Mickey Keith will officiate.
Mrs. Melton died Thursday, December 12, 2013 in Norman. She was born February 15, 1910 at Center, Oklahoma to Oscar Thomas and Bitty O. Sloan Medlock. She attended Center grade school, Ada Jr. High School and graduated from Ada High School at the age of 16 and continued on to East Central University and obtained a teaching certificate at the age of 18.
She married Troy O. Melton on August 15, 1935. He preceded her in death in March, 1988. Mrs. Melton was a teacher and homemaker. She and her husband shared a radio and TV program for many years and they worked together in their real estate and insurance business in downtown Ada for many years. Their "Thought for the Day" was displayed in their office window until the day they retired. Mrs. Melton taught bible classes and Sunday school classes at several churches.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Foster and her husband Alan of Norman; nephews, Bryan Medlock of Dallas, TX, Richard Medlock of Tulsa, and Bill Medlock of Stratford; nieces, Betty Barcklow of Corpus Christi, TX, and Ann Harden of McAlester.
