MARY ELLA ECKLES
EDMOND-Services for Mary Ella Reynolds Eckles, 81, of Edmond, formerly of Ada and Holdenville are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Rollow Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Ada, Rev. Bob Langston will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mrs. Eckles died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.. She was born September 20, 1933 in Ada, Oklahoma to Lawrence and Stella Reynolds. She graduated from Ada High School in 1951. She attended William Woods College and the University of Oklahoma where she received her degree. She also received a master's degree in education from East Central University.
After graduation, she was an Interior Designer in Dallas and some years later taught school in Holdenville. Continuing her career in Oklahoma, she was an assistant director for the Community Literacy Center and later worked as Program Director for the state highway safety office. Mrs. Eckles was an avid painter, volunteer for the Pink Ladies, the Harn Homestead, and served on the board of directors for Safe Kids. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Brown and her husband Warren of Brentwood, TN; two sons, Robert Eckles and wife Andrea of Holdenville, and Phillip Eckles of Holdenville; five grandchildren, Ethan and Alexandra Brown, and Bailee, Samantha, and Rylee Eckles; an aunt, Dorothy Schneider of Tulsa; and her husband, Jess Taylor.
