MARVIN MCELRATH
NORMAN-Services for Marvin Houston McElrath, 90, of Norman are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Little Axe First Baptist Church in Little Axe, Oklahoma, Dr. Sunny Stuart and Rev. Jerry Holley will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman.
Mr. McElrath died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at an Ada nursing home. He was born May 11, 1923 in Malden, Missouri to Johnnie Ray and Laura Elizabeth Maben McElrath.
Marvin served in the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Army, retiring after 20 years of service. He later worked for the State Department of Agriculture as a federal and state meat inspector until retiring in 1986.
He married Dorothy Pearl Williamson on March 19, 1977 in Stratford. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Little Axe. He served as a Deacon at the church for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy McElrath, of the home; six daughters, Janey Ruth Idell of Haymarket, VA, Fran Earls and her husband Wayne of Oklahoma City, Jan Welch and her husband David of Gravette, AR, La Rachel Nan and her husband Rev. Jerry Holley of Bixby, OK, Barbara Sheppard of Oklahoma City and Norma Beard and husband Mike of Wanette; two sons, David Hinkle and wife Rejane of El Paso, TX, and Brian Hinkle and wife Kelli of Stratford one sister, Dora Ann Slusher of Benton, MO; one brother, Wayne McElrath and wife Emily Jo of Goodyear, AZ; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Candice Sheppard; a sister, Viola Riggs; and four brothers, Raymond, Joy, Harold Dean and Roy McElrath.
Bearers will be grandsons, Walter Beard, Andy Hinkle, Adam Hinkle, Michael Hinkle, Jeremy Holley and Jason Holley. Honorary bearers will be Jordan Holley and Tracy Simmons.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the First Baptist Church of Little Axe Building Fund, 3405 168th Ave. NE, Norman, OK 73026.
