MARVANELL WALKER
HEALDTON-Graveside services for Marvanell Poe Walker, 90, of Healdton, formerly of Ada, are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada, Danny Huntsman will officiate.
Mrs. Walker died Monday, June 11, 2012 at an Ardmore hospital. She was born October 9, 1921 in Ada, Oklahoma to Albert and Jennie Owen Poe. She attended Ada schools and graduated from Ada High School. She attended East Central University.
During World War II, she worked at the Pontotoc County Rations Board where she was the supervisor. While working there, she met Harry Walker. They were married November 26, 1949 in Gainesville, Texas. After World War II, she began working at Finley and Lollar Company as a secretary. She and her family moved to Healdton during the oil boom.
Mrs. Walker was a homemaker and later a secretary for the Healdton Public Schools. Later she worked for the Bank of Healdton, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Shell Street Church of Christ in Healdton, the Wednesday Morning Ladies Bible Study, and a local Bunko club. She was a golfer at the Headlton Golf Course for many years.
Survivors include her son, Steve Poe and his wife Janet of Woodward; nieces Susan Cartmell and husband, Dr. Larry Cartmell of Ada and Beth Ori and husband Bobby of Tulsa; her nephews, Bob Jeter and wife Nancy of Pickett, Scott Poe and wife Shanna of Ada, and Randy Poe of Edmond; and several great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Walker; brothers, Jack Poe, Sam Poe and Morris Poe; sister, Faye Jeter; sisters-in-law, Lois Poe and Edith Poe; and brother-in-law, Floyd Jeter.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Shell Street Church of Christ of Healdton, OK.
