Marjorie Cerney
ADA-Memorial services for Marjorie Jane "Midge" Cerney, 89, of Ada, are Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, conducted by Father John Norvell.
Mrs. Cerney died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at an Ada assisted living center. She was born April 17, 1926 at Mason City, Iowa to Bruce and Katherine Secor Grippen. She received a Bachelor's of Art degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, FL. She majored in English Literature. She attended Oxford University in Great Britain for several summers completing post graduate courses in Chaucer and Roman Britain.
She married Rob Roy Cerney, Jr. December 30, 1948 in Mason City, IA. He preceded her in death March, 1983. During her marriage, she and her family moved close to 20 times all over the continental USA. She was a member of the DAR, Kappa Delta Sorority and numerous local social clubs and church activities wherever she lived. She was very supportive of her children, husband, and grandchildren. She participated in their lives with great enthusiasm. She was a great animal lover, and had no tolerance for people who abused animals. She was a talented musician, loved all types of music and found great happiness listening to music. After her husband died, she travelled extensively in North and Central America, the British Isles and Europe.
Mrs. Cerney was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Carolyn Cerney, Roff, OK, Nancy Anne Cerney, Ft. Pierce, FL, and Patricia Walsh and husband John, Jupiter, FL; two grandchildren, Mark Frances Walsh and Jacob Cerney Walsh; three great grandchildren; her cat Luka; and other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son-in-law, Kyle Cummings; and her beloved border collie, Meggie.
The family says those who wish may make memorials in her name to either the Pontotoc Ridge Preserve/Nature Conservancy, Oklahoma Chapter Office, 10425 South 82nd East Avenue
