Marie Spears
Services for Marie Valentine Spears, 107, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, Rev. John Haynes will officiate. A private burial will preceed the service.
Mrs. Spears passed away Monday, July 16, 2018.
She graduated from Hobart High School in 1929.
She was a former student at Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma State University where she met her husband, Sid S. Spears, and they were married on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1932.
They moved to Ada in 1949, where her husband was a rancher and she was a homemaker.
Mr. and Mrs. Spears were active members of Ada First Baptist Church. One of her favorite organizations was WMU. She loved to sing and was a member of the Mature Melody Makers. She attended Sunday School until she was 105.
They were active in the community and her husband became a founding board member of Citizens Bank. Her interest in genealogy prompted her to be a founding member of the Chimney Hill Daughters of the American Revolution. As a fifty year member she held many offices: Keeper of the Flag and pianist until she was 100.
She was a fifty year member of the Colonial Dames and Eastern Star. She belonged to the First Families of Oklahoma, Tanti Study Club and Fortnightly Study Club.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1983 and she moved to Brookdale Assisted Living Center in 2011. She was the last surviving sibling in a family of seven.
She is survived by three children: Lou Ann (Jack) Hoover, Ada; Fay (Dave) Kristjanson, Dana Point, CA; and Walter (Karen Jo) Spears, Ada; five grandchildren, David (Dani) Kristjanson, Mission Viejo, CA; Karen Ann (John) Rochefort, Mission Viejo, CA; Blake (Alicia) Spears, Edmond; Kelsey (Jared) Breedlove, Norman; and Whitney (Rob) Schaerer, Norman; she was blessed with nine great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Her favorite Bible scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the Lord – and He will direct your path.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the First Baptist Church Seniors Program, 521 S. Broadway, Ada, OK 74820.
