FAYE SUTTON
ADA-Services for Manela Faye Sutton, 86, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Vicki Crooks will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church.
Mrs. Sutton died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at a local nursing home. She was born November 5, 1923 in Noble County, near Perry, Oklahoma to George Leo and Annie Cockrum Golliver. She attended a one-room school house called Lone Star School, then moved into Perry to live with her grandparents and graduated from Perry High School in 1942. While in high school, she played in the "jazz combo".
After graduated she moved to Ponca City to attended business school. During this time, she became a "Rosie" working in the uniform factory making uniforms for our troops in World War II. She married Billy D. Farmer. They were married for 25 years and divorced. She later married Earl Sutton in 1971. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1996. They were married for 25 years.
Mrs. Sutton worked as a medical secretary/transcriber and supervisor of the Cardiovascular unit at Valley View Regional Hospital until retiring after 20 years of service. She was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels and active in bridge, oil painting and china painting classes.
Survivors include three children, Joe Farmer, Byng, Julie Gillum, Ada, and Janet Peery and husband Larry, Shawnee; step-children, Stanley Sutton, Latta, Brenda Boyles, Byng and Melinda Staggs and husband Cory of Arkansas; five grandchildren, Christopher Peery and wife Kim, Shawnee, Amanda Dickson and husband Chris, Shawnee, Tildon Gillum and wife Melodie, Shreveport, LA/Ada, Shawna Potts and husband Billy, Loganville, GA, and Ryan Farmer and wife Melissa, Broken Arrow; 18 great grandchildren; a brother, Mike Golliver and wife Donna, Enid; and a sister, Mae Archer, Danville, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, one brother, Bill Golliver and wife Lucille, one sister, Georgia Bratcher and husband Orville, one brother-in-law, Frank Archer, her daughter-in-law, Sharon Farmer, and a son-in-law, Gary Gillum.
Bearers will be Boyd Cox, Anthony Jordan, Ryan Farmer, Tildon Gillum, Chris Peery and Chris Dickson. Honorary bearers will be Kennet Ball, Dick Scalf, Lloyd Jack and Dr. Jack Haraway.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the First Christian Church of Ada, 101 E. 13th, Ada, OK; the First Christian Church of Shawnee for the music department, 1625 N. Broadway, Shawnee, OK 74804; or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimers research, 825 NE 13th, Oklahoma City, OK 73104.
