MABEL JONES

ADA-Services for Mabel J. Jones, 96, Ada, are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Rev. Don Griffin will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jones died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at a local hospital. She was born February 12, 1914 in the Walnut Grove Community, west of Ada, Oklahoma to Walter A. and Eula B. Crow Kirby. She graduated from Ada High School and later East Central State Teachers College in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She taught at Walnut Grove, Hall's Hill and Worstell schools in Pontotoc County. She retired from teaching during World War II and was a homemaker until the mid 1960's when she began her work as a bookkeeper for J. Kent Smith Jewelers in Ada.

She married Fred M. Jones April 29, 1939. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1985. Mrs. Jones was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Jones, Ada; two grandchildren, Steven Jones and wife Diana, Norman and Mark Jones, Ada; and three brothers, J. O. Kirby and wife Bea, Ada, Johnny Kirby and wife Peggy, Ada, and Jim Kirby and wife Joy, Rockwall, TX;

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Robert Kirby, and two sisters, Melba Kirby and Myrtle Sutton.

Bearers will be Keith Wilkerson, Kenneth Wilkerson, Burl Oliver, John Ryan, Mark Jones, Steven Jones and Gary Kirby.
