LYNDA COOPER, LCSW
ADA-Services for Lynda Lu Lewis Cooper, 71, Ada, are 1:00 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Revs. David Daniel and Bob Langston will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Ms. Cooper died Monday, June 20, 2011 at a local nursing home. She was born March 3, 1940 in Sulphur, Oklahoma to Willys "Bill" Frank and Yvonne Lynn Rose Lewis. She graduated from Sulphur High School, received a Bachelor's degree from East Central University and a Master's degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Ms. Cooper was a licensed clinical social worker for 20 years in Sulphur, Oklahoma City, Norman, Atoka and several nursing homes. She then worked for Tri-County Indian Nation CDC. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada, where she served on a board and was a member of the Homebuilders Sunday School Class. She was a board member of AACES, a "Katrina" Coordinator with the American Red Cross, and a member of the Emmaus Community. In 1979, she implemented a battered women's shelter, was active with Relay for Life, Matthew 25, and helped organize 211.
Survivors include her children, Rick Litchfield and wife Jimmie Ann of Ada, Debra Baker and husband Duane of Ada, Guy Cooper of Asheville, NC, and Kyla Cooper of Ada; six grandchildren, Kyle Frazier, Ada, Angelique Owens, Ada, Kayla Cooper and Sarah Cooper, both of Asheville, NC, Ray Larsen, Ardmore and James Larsen, Chiefland, Florida; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Julie Wilson, Noble, and Sue Kennedy and husband Jodie, Sulphur; a sister-in-law, Kay Lewis, Denton, TX; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Parker, Davis; several nieces and nephews; and her life-long friend, Mary Jane Evans.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Frank Lewis, a sister, Robin Parker, and a brother-in-law, Roy Wilson.
Honorary bearers will be Rob Newcomer, Ron Boggs, Wayne McMullin, Billy Bob Rice, Billy Campbell, Bill Chapman, George Warren, Tom Criswell, Doug Laramore, and Steve Taylor.
