LUCILLE DILLON
OKLAHOMA CITY-Graveside services for Lucille Cate Dillon, Oklahoma City, formerly of Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rev. John Norvell will officiate. A viewing for family and friends is Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dillon died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born October 25, 1912 in Hazen, Arkansas to George Henry Lee and Virginia Amelia Bassett Replogle Cate.
She graduated from Peabody High School, which was affiliated with the University of Arkansas, and thereafter enrolled in the University of Arkansas when she was 16 years old. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She later attended the University of Oklahoma.
She married W. J. "Jack" Dillon, Jr. on February 25, 1932. She, with husband Jack, was part owner and later full owner of Dillon's Department Store on Ada Main Street for almost 50 years. She also was part owner of Arlington Center, Ada's first shopping center outside of the Ada Main Street area.
She was a member of and taught Sunday School class for years at the First United Methodist Church in Ada. She later became a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Ada and was active in St. Margaret's Guild.
She wrote children's stories, composed music and played the piano by ear. She was an excellent bridge player, being active in numerous area bridge clubs, and obtained Masterpoints from the American Bridge Association. She loved to cook and was known throughout the area for her masterful desserts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Horace and George Cate, a sister, Marjorie Cate Magee, her husband, Jack Dillon, a daughter, Katheryn Diane Dillon Patterson, and by a great grandson, Jayce Ray Sheffield.
Survivors include a son, W. J. "Matt" Dillon, III and his wife Barbara of Edmond; a daughter, Victoria Dillon Davison and her husband Denver of Ada; a sister, Virginia Ernsberger of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Paige Patterson Sheffield and Russell Trenton Patterson of Wewoka, Matthew Bryan Dillon of Oklahoma City and Susan Denise Dillon of Dallas, TX; four step-grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and eight step-great grandchildren.
