Lou
Mcelroy
March 23, 1929 – December 30, 2020
Lou McElroy
Due to the COVID-19 issues, Lou's children are planning a memorial service in the future. There will not be a gathering of family and friends at this time. Notification will be made at a later date.
Laura Lou (Wyche) McElroy was born on March 23, 1929, the fifth of eight children born to Dee and Margaret Smith Wyche. Lou (as she was always called) arrived a few minutes after her twin sister, Sue (Jordan).
Lou was a good student and graduated from McLish High School in 1947. She married her sweetheart, Glenn McElroy on November 13, 1947. She and Glenn had celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary shortly before his death.
Lou was a wonderful mother to two children, Eddie and Susan. She encouraged her children to excel in all the activities in which they participated.
Lou accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior early in her life and was a member of the Central Church of Christ until her death.
Lou loved her children dearly. She saw them through their adventures in education, Boy Scouts, basketball, football, 4-H and Little League baseball, always giving encouragement. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and many times spoke of them and their latest activity. Her support and encouragement had a great deal to do with their achievements.
A housewife (with all the duties this included in the 1950's and 1960's), she and her husband, Glenn, bought a business in Fittstown in 1967, and they successfully ran McElroy's Grocery and Market until Glenn's health resulted in the need to sell it, their cattle and land. Lou then cared for Glenn until his death February 9, 1998.
Lou is survived by her son, Eddie and his wife Debbie of Tuttle and her daughter, Susan Underwood and her husband Terry of Choctaw. Her surviving grandchildren are Sean McElroy, Lauren McElroy Walls and Landry Underwood. Lou's surviving brothers are Dale Wyche and Larry Wyche. She is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and many family members and friends.
Lou made her home at Featherstone Assisted Living Community from 2017 until her passing on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, having reached the age of 91. She made Featherstone her home and counted the staff and residents among her many friends.
Her passing creates a great void in many people's lives. She will be greatly missed
