Lorraine
Hooker
November 30, 1936 – November 27, 2021
A celebration of life for Lillian Lorraine Hooker will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Ada. Graveside service and burial will take place on Friday, Dec. 3 at Crown Hill Cemetery in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
Lorraine passed from this life on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at an Oklahoma City Hospital. She was born in Dallas, Texas on November 30, 1936 to Buford and Ruth Lindsey. She graduated from North Dallas High School, completed a semester at North Texas University and soon married her lifelong sweetheart, Verdo, on September 3, 1955. Together they made their homes in Stillwater and Broken Bow, before moving to Ada in 1963.
After their daughters were in school, Lorraine began her professional career and pursued her college education while working in the Continuing Education Department at Valley View Regional Hospital. She received a bachelor's degree in Medical Record Administration from East Central University, and later a master's degree in Public Health from OU Health Sciences Center. Lorraine became Program Director and Instructor in the Medical Record Department at East Central and eventually became the head of the Medical Record Department at Valley View. For the next almost 30 years, Lorraine's career combined work between ECU and Valley View. Lorraine was especially proud of the work she had completed to bring a cancer center to Ada – funded by the National Cancer Institute. Upon her retirement in 1998, she was the Vice President for Quality Assurance at Valley View.
Lorraine made a decision to follow Jesus Christ as her personal savior as a young teenager. She was actively involved in the ministries of First Baptist Church of Ada where she taught Sunday School, led missions groups, was Falls Creek Camp Counselor and served on several committees.
Her community involvement included organizations such as the Chimney Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as Chapter Regent, Kiamichi Country District Director and Chair of the Project Patriot committee. Lorraine was also one of the first women to become a member of the Ada Sunrise Rotary Club. For many years she was actively involved in the Republican Party, serving in numerous state and local efforts, and was one of the Bellmon Belles when Henry Bellmon ran for Governor. She enjoyed playing bridge and participated in various bridge groups in the community.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Verdo; two daughters, Vicki Rutherford-Cearnal (Bob) and Cheryl Bell (Kevin); six grandchildren, Stephen Rutherford (Jen), Krista Steele (Randy), Matt Cearnal (Victoria), Sarah McEntire (Erik), Leslie Taylor (Dane), and Jennifer Fitzpatrick (Jared); and 12 great-grandchildren, Kiersten, Connor, Brenden, Chloe, Alexis, Kyle, Luke, Morgan, Natalie, Addison, Bella and Kezia. Additionally, she has cherished nieces and nephews, Karen Adams, Bruce Hooker, Greg Hooker, Dee Ann Haworth and Bridget Cosby. She was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Harrell, her grandson, Jared Bell, and her great granddaughter, Samantha Cearnal.
Friends of the family are invited to a reception after the service in the dining room of First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering through Ada First Baptist Church.
