Obituary

ENNIS, TEXAS-Services for Lois Holmes Duncan, age 100, of Ennis, Texas, formerly of Ada, will be held 10am Saturday, November 9th at Criswell Funeral Chapel in Ada, Oklahoma. Dr. Roberto Escamilla will officiate, assisted by Reverend Jana Hogg. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Lois passed away in Ennis, Texas, November 3, 2013.

Visitation will be held 6-8pm Friday, November 8th at Criswell Funeral Home.

Lois Watson Holmes Duncan was born in Ada on October 8, 1913. Her parents were Albert Thomas Watson and Ethel Riddle Watson.

Lois attended school in Ada, Oklahoma and earned her bachelor and master degrees at East Central University. She taught elementary and vocal music twenty-three years. The last sixteen years were at Washington Elementary School in Ada. She worked as a childhood guidance counselor for the state of Oklahoma the last ten years of her working career.

Lois Watson married Joe Wesley Holmes in 1936. Joe passed away in 1990. In 1999 Lois married Elmer Duncan who lived until 2007. Also preceding her in death were her sister Doris McCoy, and her brothers Glenn Watson, Lewis Watson, Al Watson and Kenneth Watson. Her son, Ronald Holmes, passed away in 2012.

Lois is survived by beloved daughter-in-law, Sarah Holmes of Pontotoc, Oklahoma; daughter, Carole Jo Blassingame and husband John of Ennis, Texas; her step-children, Larry Duncan and wife Karen of Littleton, CO, and Ann Van Dalsem and husband Carl of Tool, TX; Grandsons are Ed Holmes and wife Shannon of Chatham, New Jersey; Ken Holmes and wife Zhanna of Seguin, Texas; John Blassingame, Jr and wife Leah of North Richland Hills, Texas; and David Blassingame of Fort Worth, Texas. Granddaughters are Suezann Davies and husband Simon of London, England; Evonne Hess and husband Gregg of Muenster, Texas; Toni Barr and husband Jim of Ennis, Texas; Kelly Lowther and husband Peter of Fort Collins, Colorado; Laura Knudson and husband Brian of Las Vegas, Nevada. Lois is also survived by nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Nephews surviving are Greg Watson and his wife Waithera of Tucker, Georgia; Rick Watson of Gainesville, Florida; William Watson of Eugene, Oregon; Glenn Watson II and wife Mille of Rogers, Arkansas; Tom Watson, of Blue Ridge, Georgia. Nieces surviving are Carol Kunert and husband Gregg of La Canada, California; Mary Gay Watson of West Plains, Missouri; Amelia Watson of Blue Ridge, Georgia; Nancy Watson of Chicago, Illinois.

Lois Duncan was a member of Douglas Bible Club, Fortnightly Study Club, American Association of University Women, Retired Teachers Association, and East Central Wives Club. Lois Duncan was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada for over sixty years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First United Methodist Church, Ada Oklahoma, East Central University Alumni scholarship fund in honor of her parents, Albert and Ethel Watson, or the charity of your choice.

Pall bearers are Ed Holmes, William Watson, Ken Holmes, David Blassingame, John Blassingame, Jr., and Jim Barr.
