ADA-Memorial services for Linda Kaye Harrel, 60, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harrel died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at her home. She was born August 28, 1954 in Ada to Homer and Lucy Wafford Howell. She attended Tishomingo schools and graduated from Tishomingo High School. She attended Murray State College and East Central University and received a Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
She married Larry Harrel on March 11, 1989. Mrs. Harrel taught the developmentally disabled at McCall's Chapel School for ten years and was later an Administrator of Great Plains Improvement Foundation. She was an advocate for the Oklahoma AIMS (developmentally disabled) and she had served on the Water District Board for Lone Wolf. Mrs. Harrel was a recent participant in Relay for Life. She and her husband moved to Ada in February, 2014 from Lone Wolf.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Harrel, of the home; a daughter, Jamie Pittman and her husband Ian of Ada; brother, Olan Howell of Latta; two sisters, Carol Matthews of Ravia and Patsy Duke and her husband Decko of Ada; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Billy Howell; sister-in-law, Arlene Howell; niece, Cree Harrel; and four nephews, Te Harrel, Jeremy Harrel, Homer Lee Howell and John Howell.
Honorary bearers will be David Matthews, Ray Matthews, Russell Matthews, and Kim Matthews.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Cancer Research, 825, NE 13th, Oklahoma City, OK 73104-5097.
