Lewis Laxton

Services for Lewis Dean Laxton, 85, of Vanoss are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Earl Hood will officiate. Burial will follow at Swan Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Laxton passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at his home. He was born March 2, 1934 in Coal County, OK to Alvin and Jessie Cleo Chapman Laxton.

He married Gladys Brown May 31, 1956. She preceded him in death July 5, 2008. He later married Sheila Sutton McCurdy Harris October 10, 2010. Mr. Laxton worked in the oilfield industry and later he was employed with Vanoss Schools in the maintenance department and as a custodian. Later, he was a bus driver for Vanoss schools. Mr. Laxton was a fifty-year member of Roff Lodge # 169 A.F. & A.M. and he had served in the U. S. Army. He was proud of his Chickasaw heritage, having served as an Elder and a proud veteran Chickasaw Warrior.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila, of the home; his daughter, Danna Laxton of Vanoss; a step-son, Byron McCurdy and wife Sandra, Weatherford, TX; a step-daughter, Taleia McCurdy, Aurora, CO; four grandsons, Tyler Laxton and wife Phileshia, Ada, Brad Laxton and wife Brittany, Fairhope, AL, Mason Laxton and wife KaCee, Ada and Cason Laxton and wife Shelby, Vanoss; one step-grandson, Morgan McCurdy, Lake Stevens, WA; two step-granddaughters, Jordan McCurdy, Albuquerque, NM and Kaycee McCurdy, Weatherford, TX; eleven great-grandchildren; a special nephew and niece, Gerry Laxton and wife Wanda, Sulphur; and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Gladys; a son, Dewayne Laxton; and four brothers, Alvin Jr., Don, Floyd and John Laxton.

Bearers will be Mason Laxton, Cason Laxton, Gerry Laxton, Terry Laxton, Tracey Laxton and Ronnie Mackey.
