BUD AYRES
EDMOND-Services for Leon "Bud" Ayres, 93, of Edmond, formerly of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Joe Rhodes will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada. Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
Mr. Ayres died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at his home. He was born August 25, 1920 in Konawa, Oklahoma to William Perry and Lettie Caroline Miller Ayres. He lived in this area his entire life.
He married Betty Lou Weston on July 28, 1945. Mr. Ayres was the owner and operator of Bud's Rural Gas in Ada for many years. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason. He had served in the U. S. Army during World War II, and a Pearl Harbor Veteran. Mr. Ayres was awarded the honorary rank of Colonel by Major General Myles Deering in the spring of 2013. He was affiliated with Highland Park Baptist Church in Edmond.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ayres, of the home; a daughter, Linda Ayres Shirallie of Edmond; a son, Terry L. Ayres of Bella Vista, AR; five granddaughters, Abby Lynn Shirallie, Christiana Fortney, Ruby Ayres, Pearl Ayres, and Jade Ayres; and a sister, Peggy Stone of Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bearers will be Kooresh Shirallie, Ron Standridge, William Ayres, Jack Ayres and Thomas Ayres. Honorary bearers will be Mike Nichols, Joe Summers, Randy Stone, Carl Gilley, Paul Martin and Warren Carder.
