A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Ada, Oklahoma at 2:00pm for Lawanna Glenn Taylor Ronald, cherished wife, mother, Nana and friend who passed away from complications of COVID-19 Monday, January 18, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma. She was 78 years old.
Lawanna was born to Audrey (Willis) and Thomas Taylor on December 6, 1942 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a graduate of Guthrie High School, Class of 1960 and attended Central State College, now known as the University of Central Oklahoma. She studied Art Education and was a proud member of the Sigma Kappa sorority.
On August 9, 1963, she married the love of her life, Stuart M. Ronald, in the chapel of the First Baptist Church in Guthrie, Oklahoma. As a devoted wife of a civil engineer working for the Department of Transportation Highway Division, they lived in several areas of Oklahoma including Oklahoma City, Wewoka, and Ardmore until making Ada their home of 50 years.
To know Lawanna is to know she considered raising four successful children her greatest achievement, and she loved sharing stories about her 11 grandchildren, ages spanning 31 to 10 years old.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she was key in starting the Mother's Day Out Program in the early 70's. She was a member of the Homebuilders Sunday school class, several Bible study groups and served on many committees over the years.
Lawanna was a very active member of the community, and her children would tell you she was the busiest, most important lady in town without an official job title. Whether it was helping with a fundraiser for an Ada High booster group, delivering Meals-On-Wheels or creating a window display in a store downtown, her larger-than-life personality made everyone smile. She knew no strangers.
Lawanna's roles in life were not only a wife, mother, and Nana, she was a wonderful sister, aunt, cousin, artist, listener, advice giver, recipe sharer, adventure taker, memory maker, creative thinker, and the best of friends to many.
She was an active alumni of Sigma Kappa sorority and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Lawanna enjoyed bridge and played in many different clubs around the Ada area.
Lawanna was proceed in death by her parents Audrey Willis Coco, and Tom and Glyn Earl Taylor; her in-laws, Eileen and Gordon Ronald, and Gormaleen and Bill Miller; aunt and uncle Pearl and George Wilson, sister Barbara Wilson and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Lawanna is loved and remembered by a large family including her children Janota Ronald of Ada, Oklahoma; Melita Ronald Edwards and husband Joe of Peoria, Arizona; Rob Ronald and wife Christy of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; and Shawna Ronald Montague and husband Jason of Naperville, Illinois.
Lawanna is also survived by her 11 grandchildren: Kire Ann Stenson of Wilmington, North Carolina; Hana Stenson Bole and husband Andres of Annapolis, Maryland; Cali Stenson of Arlington, Massachusetts; James Stenson of Ada, Oklahoma; Morgon Edwards Binkley and husband Tyler of Chandler, Arizona; Brady Edwards of Peoria, Arizona; Corbin Tarrant and wife Danielle of Yukon, Oklahoma; Chandler Tarrant Fry and husband Chris of Edmond, Oklahoma; Adynn Ronald of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; Lily Montague of Naperville, Illinois; and Rhett Montague of Naperville, Illinois; 8 siblings Robert Taylor and wife Sandy of DeRidder, Louisiana; Earlene Brewer of Batesville, Mississippi; Polly Anderson and husband Russell of Mandeville, Louisiana; Peggy Rozas and husband Walter of Cottonport, Louisiana; Iletta Schexnyder and husband Dale of Lecompte, Louisiana; Janice Redmond and husband Ronnie of Bunkie, Louisiana; Hugh Taylor and wife Heidi of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Georgia Belle Pettijohn and husband Leon of Frisco, Texas; her aunt, Vera Tesch of Sheridan, Texas; numerous cousins, nieces & nephews, including her niece, Tobie Hearrell, who has been her home companion for the past seven years.
