Mrs. Meek passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at her daughter's home in Plano. She came into this world on September 22, 1928. Jean was the 2 nd child of five born to Guy and Mattie Marsalas Logsdon. She grew up in Ada where her father was owner and founder of the Logsdon Furniture Company. Familiarity with and her love of furniture, led her to the study of Interior Design, Fashion Design and Art in college. But before finishing college, Jean returned home to run her own western store.

Jean married Bill W. Long July 12, 1950. After several moves, they settled outside Yukon, OK, to raise their six children on an Appaloosa and Quarter Horse ranch. Jean loved her children and was kept very busy helping put together school Christmas programs and 4-H Share-the-Fun programs, making costumes for six children in all those programs, and sewing matching Christmas outfits for the children each year. Also while at Yukon, Jean found time to serve as president of the Women's Democratic League of Yukon.

Jean and Bill moved to a cattle ranch outside Fittstown, OK in the Sunshine Community. Jean joined the Chickasaw Cats, a Native American musical group in which she played the fiddle.

The fiddle was an important part of Jean's life. She won a fiddling contest; she played at the Diamond Jubilee at the Oklahoma State Fair; and she played with the rest of her musical family at the 1982 Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the mall in Washington, D.C. She is most remembered, however, for the fun she brought to family reunions and neighborhood gatherings with her rendition of "Here, Rattler."

After almost 45 years of marriage, Bill died of cancer, and Jean moved to Lake Texhoma where she eventually met her second husband, Lavoid Meek. The two moved to Ada where Jean's green thumb in the flower garden brought joy to the neighbors and splendor to the neighborhood. Then Lavoid, too, passed away.

Nearly 90 when she died, Jean spent the last six years of her life in Plano, Texas, in the loving care of her daughter, Valarie Canfield.

Jean is survived by daughter, Vicki Creed and husband Kelly of Ada; son, John Long of Rancho Mirage, CA; daughter, Valarie Canfield and husband Pete of Plano, TX; son, Lonnie Long and wife Jan of Ada; daughter, Lisa Larios and husband Kevin of Stillwater, OK; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Logsdon of Tulsa; grandchildren, Katie Harris (husband Dell), Kelsey Creed, Caroline and Tyler Wade, Amanda and Byron Canfield, Danielle Scroggin (husband Brock), Aaron Long (wife Jannason), Aleena Overman (husband Walter), Janessa Lawrence (husband Josh), Austin Long, and Lance and Will Larios; and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bill Long and Lavoid Meek; daughter, Marsha Jarvis; sister, Bettie Bell and her husband Paul; brother, John Logsdon and his wife Margaret; brother, Guy William Logsdon; sister, Bobbie Koch and her husband Shirley.

Bearers will be her grandsons: Tyler Wade, Byron Canfield, Aaron Long, Austin Long, Lance Larios, Will Larios, and grandson-in-law, Brock Scroggin. Honorary bearers will be grandsons-in-law, Dell Harris, Walter Overman and Josh Lawrence.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, Oklahoma Chapter, 2448 E. 81 st Street, Ste. 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137.
