Kathleen Sue Belt
Kathleen Sue Belt, 94, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on December 22, 2010 at the Jan Francis Care Center in Ada, Oklahoma.
She was born January 10, 1916, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to parents Albert Wood Starns and Mary Leona Winfield. She was the eldest daughter of seven siblings: James Frank, Leona Lucille, Claude Albert, Jimmie Luke, Billy Eugene and Mary Jo.
Kathleen graduated from Vamoosa High School with the class of 1935. Having grown up in Konawa, she spent most of her adult life in Oklahoma City where she was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. One of the greatest joys of her life was the raising of her only son, David Lynn Grimes. She served as the den mother of his Cub Scout troop and was active in the PTA. Mrs. Belt was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. She was a life member of the Eastern Star Nova Chapter #263. In 1989, she returned to Konawa where she lived until she moved into the assisted care facility in Ada, Oklahoma in 2005.
Kathleen was a loving mother and wife. Known for her tenacity and unwillingness to compromise on her principles, she loved people and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was very social and never met a stranger. Kathleen took comfort in her friendships and was always ready to chat and lend an ear. She was an avid correspondent and enjoyed poetry and reading. While her body may have failed her, her mind never did – remaining mentally alert to the very end.
Kathleen was married three times during her long life. She was preceded in death by her three spouses: Ellsworth Walter Duncan, Glenn Ross Grimes and Harold Edwin Belt. She is survived by son, David Lynn Grimes and his wife, Sandra, of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren: David Edwin Grimes of Edinburgh, Scotland and Emily Kathleen Peabody and husband, Prentice, of Allen, Texas; great-grandchildren: Elbert Prentice "Pete" Peabody V, Katherine Grace Peabody and Charles David Peabody; her brother, Jim Starns of Seminole; sister, Mary Jo Rains and husband, Bill, of Konawa; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all the wonderful people who have contributed to Kathleen's care during her declining years. She will be interned at Konawa Cemetery following a private family celebration of her life.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory may do so with a gift to Halo Hospice of Ada, Oklahoma.
