Obituary

Judy Kay Welch, 73, of Ada, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at a hospital in Oklahoma City, surrounded by her loving family and close friends.

Judy was born on June 19, 1952, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to N.Y. and Wilda Thompson. She shared 38 wonderful years with the love of her life, George Welch, whom she married on September 1, 2005.

Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy in life was her family. She treasured every moment spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Whether cheering from the stands at sporting events, attending school activities, or sitting trackside watching her grandson race, Judy never missed an opportunity to support the people she loved. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and brought immeasurable happiness to her life.

Judy also had a deep love for her puppies, who were treasured companions. She enjoyed taking them on walks and spending quiet time with them, and they brought her comfort, laughter, and joy throughout the years.

Judy dedicated 27 years of service to Walmart before retiring in February 2021. She also worked alongside her husband, George, helping operate Oklahoma Sports Park for 32 years, where they built countless friendships and memories together.

She is survived by her beloved husband, George Welch of Ada; daughter, Miranda West and husband Mike of Durant, Oklahoma; son, Gary Dodd and wife Alyson of Tishomingo, Oklahoma; and two stepdaughters whom she loved as her own, Kellie Mullins and husband Mark of Ada, Oklahoma, and Kim Harrell and husband Jason of Yukon, Oklahoma.

She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Austin Wainscott, Ashlin Wainscott, Maverick Dodd, Paige Young, Gavin Mullins, Kelsey Mullins, Kamrin Umphrey, and Kolbie Umphrey; and by her siblings, Valley Branscum, Neal Thompson, Elizabeth Hatcher, and Anita Thompson.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, N.Y. and Wilda Thompson of Wardville, Oklahoma.

Judy's kindness, unwavering love for her family, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
