Obituary

Joy Wellington of Ada, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the age of 92. Memorial Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Ada with Rev. Harold Ware and Dr. David Davis officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Criswell Funeral Directors.

Joy was born on October 25, 1929 in Gage, Oklahoma to Hoyt and Elsie (Hall) Maness. She graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, Kansas. She married to W. Dean Wellington of Coffeyville, Kansas on May 21, 1950. Both attended Oklahoma Baptist University where Dean received his photography degree. Upon graduation, Joy and Dean moved to Ada on February 1, 1956 where they established the Dean Wellington Photography Studio that served thousands of families for many years.

Joy was preceded in death by Hoyt and Elsie Maness, husband Dean, and sister Billie Hixson. Joy has one living sister, Jean McMillion of Richardson.

Joy was a long time member of First Baptist Church where she taught single's Sunday School. She was a member of the Adult Choir and led the two-year old choir for many years. She also led the Alpha Choir which was a Christian pre-natal program for mothers-to-be.
Joy was a loving mother to four children: Libby, Rodd, Joni and Daniel all of whom are married with families.
Her greatest love was being known as "MaMa Joy" to her 13 grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren as well as many children from First Baptist Church of Ada.

Survivors include two daughters; Libby Davis and her husband, David, of Pearland, Texas; Joni Truhett and her husband, Joe, of Forest, Mississippi and two sons, Rodd Wellington and his wife, Kathy, of Ada and Daniel Wellington and his wife, Joni, of Ada. Mama Joy was blessed with 13 grandchildren: Lincoln Davis and wife Lotis; LeJoy Dickens and husband Larry; Landon Davis and wife Valerie; Lexis Bort and husband Kenneth; Parker Wellington and wife Kailey; Katie Hill and husband Queston; Thomas Truhett and wife Jennie; Jill Truhett; Rachel Downey and husband Jeremy; Marcus Truhett and wife Bethany; Haley Wellington; Maggie Wellington; Daniel Wellington and wife Meagan.
Joy also had 17 great-grandchildren which included: Cooper, Kayla and Abigail Dickens; Whitney Davis; Graham, Owen and Dean Davis; Leighton and Levi Bort; Hudson, Jackson and Grayson Wellington; Jane and Wells Truhett; Dorothy Downey; Riley and Griffin Truhett.
