Johnny Emarthla
Services for Johnny Lee Emarthla, 78, of Konawa are 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Don Jacob will officiate. Burial will follow at the Emarthla Cemetery. A Wake service will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Emarthla passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 in Oklahoma City. He was born October 22, 1938 in Konawa to Marcus and Lucy Frank Emarthla.
He married Mary Ann Larney February 26, 1965 in Anadarko. They then moved to Konawa and made their home there. Mr. Emarthla was a truck driver for District #1, Seminole County. He was a member of Mitchell Memorial United Methodist Church in Ada.
He truly loved gospel music, singing Choctaw hymns, talking to people, and always encouraging everyone. He never met a stranger. He loved getting in the car and driving and looking at the scenery. Mr. Emarthla was a Chaplain for the Bryan County Convention, a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and a member of the Tallahasee Band. He was also a Bird Clan.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; three daughters, Sandy Cellars and husband Terry of Sasakwa, Nan Micco and husband Frisco and Lucy Postoak, all of Konawa; a son, Chebon Emarthla and wife Malinda of Konawa; a brother, Tommy Emarthla of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Marissa Patterson, Del City, Zachary Postoak, Micco, Sylus and Levi Emarthla, all of Konawa; one great-grandson, Isaiah Patterson of Del City; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Stephen Postoak.
Bearers will be Chebon Emarthla, Greg Chilcoat, Jonah Bushy, Solomon Bushy, Zachary Postoak and Randy Northcott. Honorary bearers will be Charlie Hill and Edward Palmer.
