JOHNNIE RAY
ADA-Services for John Edward "Johnnie" Ray, 81, of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Southwest Church of Christ, Floyd Kaiser will officiate. Burial will follow at Lightning Ridge Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Ray died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Sulphur Veterans Center. He was born August 6, 1931 at Roff, Oklahoma to John Thomas and Lela Moss Ray. He graduated from Vanoss High School and attended East Central University. He joined the U. S. Army, Company D, 46th Armored Infantry Battalion in 1951 during the Korean Conflict.
He married Juanita Coffey on December 21, 1956 at Ada, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on January 26, 1996. Mr. Ray was employed by Evergreen Mills in Ada for 42 years until his retirement. He was also a substitute mail carrier for several years. Mr. Ray was a longtime faithful member of Southwest Church of Christ in Ada, where he served in the Prison Ministry and assisted elderly members.
Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Balch and her husband Stanley of Roff, Mary Ray of Edmond, and Brenda Flowers and her husband Darren of Ada; five grandchildren, Wade Balch, John Balch, Breanna Wray, Lauren Flowers, and Caraline Flowers; one great granddaughter, Aisling Balch; two great grandsons, Richter Balch and Grayson Wray; and special friends, Randy and Ann Wilson of Ada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a half-brother, Dan Ray; and two half-sisters, Mattie Rassier and Ollie Crooks.
Bearers will be Glendel Hatton, Greg Hatton, Weldon Cravey, David Dirrum, Alan Simpson and Butch Platt. Honorary bearers will be Ed Coffey, Bobby Johns, Bill Barrett, Pete Maloy, Roger Lancaster, Dewey McDonald, James Hill, Alvin Jamar, Elmer Gerth, Gene "Burr" Harris, and all "roundtable" members.
