JOHN W. HUNEKE, MD

John W. Huneke was born August 4, 1932, in Batesville, IN, and passed on August 30, 2012 at the age of 80. Dr. Huneke grew up in Batesville, Indiana, graduated from Wabash College and completed his medical degree at Indiana University. He met his future wife, Frances Thibodeaux, during his internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. They where married in Pensacola, Florida, where he was serving as a flight surgeon in the Navy. After their wedding, they moved to Mountain View, CA, while he continued as a flight surgeon for the Navy, then returned to Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he completed his residency. He completed his education in Hempstead Long Island, New York where he finished his Fellowship in Ophthalmology. Dr. Huneke practiced as an ophthalmologist for 32 years in Ada, Oklahoma, where he was active in the community and well loved by his patients and staff. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Frances T. Huneke; children, Elizabeth H. Simpson (TN), Susan R. H. Brown (OK), Ann H. Morris (OK), W. Cordt Huneke (FL), and Frances H. Burr (HI); and grandchildren John Brown, Jeremy Simpson, Averi Simpson, Austin Morris, Bailey Morris, Madeline Huneke, and Grayson Burr. Dr. Huneke loved playing golf, fishing and spending time with his family. His presence in our lives will be greatly missed. Memorial service is on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church, Ada, Oklahoma, Father Rusty Hewes will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities or your favorite charity.
