JOHN GARRETT
ADA-Services for John Harold Garrett, 67, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Rev. David Daniel will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Garrett died Friday, November 26, 2010 at a local hospital. He was born August 1, 1943, at Coalgate, Oklahoma to J. M. and Barbara Green-Garrett. He attended Coalgate schools and graduated from Coalgate High School. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Business.
He married Kelly Lynn Dysart on May 13, 1978. She preceded him in death on October 20, 2004. Mr. Garrett was the co-owner, along with his brother Lionel, of Garrett Book Company in Ada. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, and Oak Hills Golf and Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors and helped oversee the construction of the new Clubhouse. He was also a University of Oklahoma donor. Mr. Garrett served in the Air Force National Guard.
Survivors include three daughters, Lacey Garrett, Lewisville, TX, Dr. Keely Smith and her husband Sam Smith, Houston, TX, and Brittny Garrett, Dallas, TX; his mother, Barbara Garrett, Ada; a granddaughter, Sydney Elizabeth Smith, Houston, TX; a grandson, Garrett Mahan Smith, Houston, TX; and a brother, Lionel Garrett, Ada.
He was preceded in death by his father, J. M. Garrett.
Bearers will be Jon Moon, Joe Landrum, Pud Wood, Sam Smith, Gary May and Jim Rice. Honorary bearers will be Lionel Garrett, Max Roberson, Dr. Rick Coleman, Dr. Gary Cutler, Phil Parrish, Ronnie Dysart and Bill Dysart.
