JOHN E. DAVIS
JESSE-Services for John Edward Davis, 89, of Jesse are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Pontotoc United Methodist Church, Rev. Duane Baker will officiate. Burial will follow at the Pontotoc Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Davis died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Sulphur Veterans Center. He was born June 19, 1924 near Harden City, Oklahoma to Elmer Edward and Leona Peacher Davis.
He married Mary Ellen Snell on February 28, 1948. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2008. Mr. Davis was a motor grader operator for Pontotoc County District #3 until his retirement. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart Medal.
Survivors include his daughter, Shirley Ann Barrett and her husband Jerry of Ada; three sisters, Lois Lee Davis, Zena Mae McCraw and Dovie Spence, all of Ada; two granddaughters, Sherri Jean Duty and her husband Ladd of Tyrone, and Leslie Ann Singleton and her husband Scott of Edmond; one great grandson, Chance James Duty; and one great granddaughter, Brenda Tegan Singleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Thomas (Tim) Davis.
Bearers will be Ladd Duty, Scott Singleton, Chris Snell, Jamie Snell, Ken Braddock and Rocky Thompson.
