BUCK MURPHY
ADA-Services for John Wesley "Buck" Murphy, 88, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. David Daniel will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Stonewall.
Mr. Murphy died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at a local nursing home. He was born September 21, 1921 at Union Valley, Oklahoma to John Wesley Murphy Sr. and Ruby Queen Adams Murphy. He graduated from Stonewall High School.
He married Ruth Bynum on November 24, 1950 at Lovington, New Mexico. Mr. Murphy was a Plant Supervisor for United Carbon later Ashland Oil in New Mexico and California for 31 years, retiring in 1983. He and his family moved back to this area from California after his retirement.. Mr. Murphy served in the U. S. Army during World War II from November 27, 1942 until being honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant on January 16, 1946. He served in the Battle of the Bulge and received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, the American Theatre Ribbon, EAME Theatre Ribbon and Three Bronze Service Stars.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Murphy, of the home; a daughter, Betty Fourqurean and husband Don, Ada; two grandchildren, Greg Fourqurean, Ada, and Karen Kent and husband Mark, Austin, TX; five great grandchildren, Don Mark Kent, Kaci Kent and Kelli Kent, of Austin, TX, Christian Fourqurean, Clyde, TX, and Brooke Fourqurean, Artesia, New Mexico; and two brothers, Samuel Wayne Murphy, Tulsa, and Horace Eugene Murphy, Ada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Effie Scott, Myrtle Burns, Alta Adams, and Estalee Scott; and two brothers, Bedford Murphy and Adolphus Morris Murphy.
Bearers will be Lanny Murphy, Terry Scott, Franklin Bynum, Cliff Ellis, Carl Wade, and Doc Scott.
