Memorial services for Joe Edd Moon, 79, of Byng are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the First Methodist Church; Rev. Brian Matthews will officiate.
Joe passed peacefully at his lake house in Mead surrounded by his family. He was born April 15, 1945 in Ada, OK to Mirl Melvin and Minnie Lucille Chism Moon.
He'd fought a long health battle with diabetes, heart failure, and Parkinson's.
Mr. Moon served in the US Army for three years during Vietnam. He was very proud of his service to his country.
Joe married Glenda Anderson in January 1966. From that union two children were born, Tina Sue and Steven Joe.
In February 1987, Joe married Glenda (Carter) Khoury and gained two sons, Philip Khoury and Stephen Khoury.
Mr. Moon was athletic and loved all sports. As a younger man he loved fishing, hunting, and playing sports. As he aged, he enjoyed watching the grandkids play softball, basketball, football, cheerleading, and volleyball.
Joe taught school at Limestone, Konawa, Roff, Wewoka, and Clayton. Some of these years as a coach, teacher, and some as an administrator.
In his retirement years, he and his brother-in-law, Bob Carter, played golf weekly. Joe and Glenda loved traveling and he's been to at least 19 countries and all US states except Rhode Island. Their favorite traveling buddies were sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gayla and Ronnie Branscum.
Joe has always put God first in his life. He was raised in the Church of Christ. He had continued to remain active serving his Lord as he and Glenda joined the First Methodist Church of Ada when they retired and moved back to Ada in 2003. He was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Joe was an extremely generous caring man; always willing to lend a hand where needed, whether it meant transporting a friend to the doctor, mowing someone's lawn or delivering Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda, of the home, a daughter, Tina Moon and Cheryl, two sons, Philip Khoury and wife Missy and Stephen Khoury. Grandchildren: Ashleigh (Calvin), Danielle (Stephen), Lauren (Trevor), Carter, Katherine, Tyler, and Jackson. Great grandchildren: Ragean and Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Steven Joe Moon.
