Memorial services for Joan Lee Boettcher, age 90, of Ada, Oklahoma will be held at 10 am Saturday, September 18 th , at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Ada. The Reverend Tammy Wooliver will officiate. The inurnment will occur at St. Luke's during the service. There will be a live stream on the St. Luke's Facebook page.
Joan passed away peacefully September 9 th , 2021 at Holdenville General Hospital. She was born January 6 th , 1931 in North Hampton, Massachusetts to Howard L. Christensen and Helen Irene Wasson Christensen. She grew up in Fargo, North Dakota and enjoyed summers with her family at nearby Munson Lake in Minnesota.
During World War II the family relocated to Omaha, Nebraska where Joan graduated from South High School in 1948. They later moved to Columbus Nebraska, where she met her future husband Charles (Bud) Boettcher. Bud and Joan settled in Gretna, Nebraska where they raised four children. The couple owned and operated the Kitchen Café. In her spare time, Joan sang in the church choir, bowled in a women's league, and developed a passion for gardening.
In 1963 the family moved to Ada for Bud's new position with Farm Bureau. Their youngest child was born in Oklahoma. In Ada she discovered her love of golf, playing with friends at courses across the state. The couple enjoyed company sponsored All-Star trips to Hawaii, Brazil, and Europe. Joan was a member of St. Luke's for 58 years where she taught Sunday school for 10 and was known for Easter egg hunts and coffee cakes after early service. She dedicated her life to her family, dogs, flowers, and church. She took joy in cooking for loved ones and caring for her yard and pool.
Joan is survived by her children: Cathie Harding, Ada; Chris (Donna) Boettcher, Carrolton, Texas; Steve Boettcher, Ada; John (Debi) Boettcher, Ada; Anne Gray, Ada; eight grandchildren: Jordan Boettcher, Norman; David (Ashley) Boettcher, Frisco, Texas; Reed (Gloria) Boettcher, Ada; Carol (Kyle) Kibodeaux, Mauriceville, Texas; Christy (Tyler) Henneke, Sugarland, Texas; Chelsee (Robert) Gray-Fant, Memphis, Tennessee; Kaleigh Gray, Ada; Rylee Gray, Ada; seven great grandchildren: Isabell, Lydia, Cason, Avery, Madeline, Katelyn, and Garrett.
Also surviving are two brothers and one sister: Richard Christensen, Valparaisio, Nebraska; Phillip Christensen, Denver, Colorado; Robin Speicher, Richland, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 2017.
Memorials may be made to the Pontotoc Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S) in Ada.
