Obituary

Jimmy King

Services for Jimmy King, 90, formerly of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Jimmy and Ellen King shared their last nightly Bible devotional on Saturday, August 15, 2026. He went home to his Father on Sunday, August 16. Jimmy Richard King was born on February 1, 1936, to Alfred and Bernis King in Roff, Oklahoma.

He was educated at Glenwood Elementary and Latta Schools. While in 5th grade he came home and told his mother that he had met the girl he was going to marry. His mom asked her name and he said he didn’t know it…yet. He and Ellen Luvenia Newton were married after their graduation on June 12, 1955. They had two daughters, Kimberly and Carrie.

Jimmy spent his work career which started in high school as a dishwasher, dairyman, and newspaper distributor. After school he worked as an automotive parts salesman and a caterpillar tractor salesman, where he eventually retired. He later worked at a funeral home, which turned out to be his favorite job.

In his spare time, he enjoyed yard work, home repairs and wood carving, having carved a replica of Matt Dillon’s gun from Gunsmoke. His love of reading and history led him to research his family genealogy.

Jimmy had a great love for his God and His word. Daily Bible devotions were a part of his and Ellen’s daily life. He was a lifetime member of the church of Christ, serving as a deacon. Over the course of his work career, he helped many people by giving them opportunities and helping them gain employment.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his daughter Carrie, grandson and namesake Jimmy Sharp and brother Wayne King.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 71 years, Ellen King, daughter Kimberly and husband Darrell. Grandchildren Neely Chapman and husband Nathan, Dale Sharp and wife Ashley, Bruce Sharp and wife Haley, Leigh Ann Sharp, the wife of Jimmy Sharp. He was also blessed to have seven great grandchildren, ranging in ages from 15 to 1. He also survived by two sisters, Janet Aday and Teresa Ervin along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmy will be remembered as a God fearing, hardworking, quiet and kind man. He will always be cherished by those who loved him and those whom he loved.
