JESSIE SALYER
ADA-Services for Jessie Mae Salyer, 91, Ada are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. Pat Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Salyer died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Casper, Wyoming. She was born March 24, 1916 at Ada, Oklahoma to William Patterson and Mattie A. Nelms Ledford. She lived in this area all her life. She attended Hayes Elementary and graduated from Ada High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from East Central University and a Master's degree in Education from the University of Oklahoma.
She married Jimmie R. Salyer December 28, 1952. He died January 26, 1991 in Ada. Mrs. Salyer taught in the Ada school system at Glenwood Elementary for over 30 years. She was one of the first kindergarten teacher's at Glenwood. Mrs. Salyer was a member of the First Baptist Church of over 50 years, a member of the Research Department of the Tanti Study Club, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Oklahoma Retired Educators Association, the Oklahoma Education Association and the National Education Association.
Survivors include four nieces, Donna Wichers, Casper, Wyoming, Janene Walker, Broken Arrow, Karen Idoine, Wendell, Massachusetts, and Laura Pearson, Decater, Illinois.
Bearers are Roger Gaddis, Jack Wilkerson, Bud Blackburn, Bobby Johns and Dick Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Donald and Carl.
