Jeannette Gamila Slaughter left this world on August 30, 2008 after a long battle with heart problems. Jeannette was born on October 29, 1926 to Elie and Esther Levy in Cairo, Egypt. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cordis Sr., and two brothers Felix and Sammie, of Israel. Jeannette is survived by two sons, Cordis Jr. and wife Lynette, of Shawnee, OK and Robert of Santa Monica, CA., two grandsons, Cory and wife Aimee of Oklahoma City and Chris of Norman, OK, one sister, Rose Suares and husband Cesar, two brothers, Jules and wife Esther, and Maurice Levy and wife Clarice all of Long Beach, CA, and nieces and nephews scattered all over the world. Jeannette's greatest loves were her faith, her family (whom she bragged on every chance that she got), her country (the good ole USA), teaching summer french classes to the kids, and later in life her activities, or should I say antics, at the Holdenville senior citizens center (The Center). Jeannette had a love for life and those around her. Jeannette was always willing to give of her time and whatever meager resources she had to help anyone who needed a hand up. Jeannette is in a better place now, looking down on us no doubt ready still to lend that hand up.

Services are 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Holdenville Nazarene Church, Rev. Dane Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada, OK. The family will receive friends at Criswell Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
