After teaching a year at Wilson elementary west of Ada, she moved to Wichita, Kansas to work for Cessna and live with her brother Arliss. In 1941, Jean followed her parents to Oakland, California to work in the ship years where she met Bill Gregory also from Ada. Jean and Bill were married in Oakland in 1943.
