Obituary

Jamie Celinda McNabb passed away unexpectedly April 16,2026, on her way home from teaching school. A gifted schoolteacher, she taught 4-year-old preschoolers for twenty-four years in Ada, Oklahoma, and second graders in Amherst, Texas, for five years. She had no children of her own, but she always said she had hundreds of other people’s children in her classroom. She loved her students and they loved her. In their words she was fun, sweet, kind, and nice. And they learned. She bought clothes for underprivileged children and warned their parents she was a hugger and to move their four-year-olds if they didn’t want their children hugged. She was tough on discipline, but always fair. It was her goal to provide her students with a safe comfortable haven and be major positive influence on the lives of young children. Outside of the classroom she was cheerful, outgoing, and friendly with great sense of humor. She strived to be a helpmate to her co-workers and enjoyed being a hostess at parties at home.

Jamie was born February 23, 1961, in Lubbock, Texas, the first child of James and Jo McNabb. She grew up in Ada, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Ada High School and East Central University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and a Master of Education Degree majoring in Elementary Education. She lived in Ada most of her adult life. She moved to Lubbock in 2021 to help care for her parents.

Jamie is survived by her parents, a sister, Jodi (Kevin), a brother Jim, nephews Ryan (Kayla) and Randall (Ciera), nieces Miranda (Jorge) and Marcella (Jordan), and numerous grand-nephews and nieces. She loved her nephews and nieces like they were her own children.

Jamie was a baptized Christian. She attended the Episcopal Church. There will be two services for Jamie. There will be a memorial service at Lake Ridge Chapel in Lubbock, Texas, on May 9th at 10:00am. Please visit www.memorialdesigners.net for livestreaming information and a place to leave memories for the family. A second service to inter her ashes will be at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Ada on May 16th at 11:00am.
