LEON SORRELS MILL CREEK-Services for James Leon Sorrels, 72, of Mill Creek, formerly of Ada, are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church, Revs. Jon Smith and Tim Carter will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Criswell Funeral Home. Mr. Sorrels died Saturday, March 8, 2014 at his home. He was born June 30, 1941 to James E. "Zeke" and Maciel Morris Sorrels in Ada, Oklahoma He graduated from Byng High School and earned Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from East Central University. He married Gwendolyn Ballard in 1959. She preceded him in death in 1970. He later married Phyllis Bowerman on July 8, 1971. Mr. Sorrels served as the Mill Creek High School Principal for 24 years. He retired from the school system with 36 years of service. Mr. Sorrels was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mill Creek, where he served as a Deacon. He also served in the U. S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Sorrels, of the home; his children, Susan Williams and her husband Wyatt of Soper, Chad Sorrels and his wife Wendy of Ada, David Sorrels and his wife Marie of Gafney, SC, and Dara Cooper and her husband Doug of Claremore; his grandchildren, Josh Williams and wife Amanda, Shane Sorrels, Tanner Sorrels, Chase Sorrels, Brady Sorrels, Kaden Sorrels, Kyle Sorrels, Houston Sorrels, Silas Crusher, Hunter Cooper and Natalie Harris; his great grandchildren, Macy and Conner Williams; a brother, Tom Sorrels and his wife Joan of Wayne, and their children, Phyllis and Kirk Dickerson of Mustang; Karla and Jason Epley of Greenville, TX; and Kevin and Jenny Sorrels of Choctaw; and their grandchildren, Nikkie Dickerson, Colten and Trinity Epley, and Bella, Riley and Brendan Sorrels. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Gwendolyn Sorrels; and a grandson, J. L. Williams. Bearers will be Chase Sorrels, Tanner Sorrels, Kyle Sorrels, Josh Williams, Houston Sorrels, Shane Sorrels and Brady Sorrels.
