JAMES MILLER

ADA-A Funeral Mass for James Paul Miller, 83, Ada, will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Father Rusty Hewes will officiate. A Prayer Vigil will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Miller died Monday, November 30, 2009 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born February 16, 1926 at Braddock, Pennsylvania to James J. and Mary Costello Miller. He attended St. Andrew's Elementary School School and St. Vincent High School and Monastery in Latrobe, PA. He completed high school at Swissvale High School in May 1944 and entered the US Army Air Corp in June 1944 and was honorably discharged in July 1946. He returned to Pittsburgh and attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1950. He came to this area in 1950 from Pittsburgh, PA.

In 1953, he married Helen Hunter Johnson in Springfield, Missouri at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was employed with Gus Delaney and then worked for Ralph Delaney Engineering, where he helped lay the Mid-America gas line through Mena, Arkansas. Following his employment with Delaney Engineering, he worked for Treatolite Chemical Company traveling to Michigan and Kansas. In 1957, he returned to Fittstown, Oklahoma where he worked for D.D. Feldman putting in the first Fitts Field water flood. In 1963, he went to work for Mr. Rod MacIvor where he and Mr. Bill Lindsey installed the Maud-Miser-Hunter unit. In 1972 he and Bill formed Lindsey and Miller Engineering. They later formed PMP, Petroleum Management Professionals. He and Bill were business partners for 35 years. Mr. Miller retired from PMP in 2007.

Mr. Miller was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada for over 50 years. He was a member of the Foundation of the University of Oklahoma. Previously, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Board of Education for St. Joseph Catholic School, Parish Council President, member of the Building Committee for the Parish Hall and School in 1953, and a member of the Building Committee for the new church in 1961.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Miller, of the home; six children, Col (ret) Gregory Miller and wife Shelly of Anchorage, AK, Dr. Paul Miller and his wife Reda, Oklahoma City, Virginia Barnett and husband Paul, Tulsa, Patti Miller, Anchorage, AK, Mark Miller and wife Teri, Tulsa, Mary Rice and husband Glen, Tulsa; ten grandchildren, Zachary Miller, Moscow, ID, Timothy Miller, USAF Academy, Colorado Springs, CO, Tanner Miller, Anchorage, AK, Geoffrey Miller, Oklahoma City, Marideth Miller, Oklahoma City, Sarah Barnett, Edmond, Matthew Barnett, Tulsa, Jordan Miller, Norman, Taylor Miller, Tulsa, and Jacob Rice, Tulsa; and two sisters, Delores Orgill, Albuquerque, NM and Peg Rogers, Pittsburgh, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard Miller and four sisters, Mary Geraldine Miller, Mary Catherine Miller, Loretta Kennedy and Mercedes Perrone.
