Memorial services for James Alton Moore, 85, of Norman are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Chad Kaminski will officiate.
Dr. Moore passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022 in Norman. He was born in Elkhart, Texas October 16, 1937 to Leroy and Wilma Lee Beeson Moore. He was raised by H.L. "Shorty" Main.
He married Carrilyn "Jan" Hatchel, June 23, 1962.
Dr. Moore earned his B.S. Degree in Education from the University of North Texas in 1965, Masters of Arts at the University of North Texas in 1967 and PHD at Oklahoma State University in 1982. He taught in the English Department at East Central University from 1967-1994 eventually becoming Chair. He also, taught in the English Department from 1994-2010 at Angelo State in San Angelo, TX, also serving as Chair.
Dr. Moore was a talented Artist and an accomplished musician on piano and guitar. He enjoyed playing all types of music and writing his own. Golf was another joy of his life and he played until his health made it impossible to continue.
Survivors are his wife Jan, of the home; two daughters, Jill Kaminski and husband Chad, of Ada and Juliet Deaton and husband Kenny, of Alex; one brother, Harold Lee Main, of Canyon Lake, TX; six grandchildren, Brandon Moore, Emily Billy, Jacklyn Johnson, Jeff Deaton, Justin Deaton and William Kaminski and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death his parents; one son, Jeffrey Moore and two sisters, Jessie Mae Williamson and Glenda Faye Johnson.
