Obituary

James Sturman Martin died on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Seminole Hospital. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Union Valley Baptist Church at 2 pm. Randall Christy is officiating.

Mr. Martin was born on March 30, 1932, in Morris, OK to James Franklin Martin and Hallie Tracy Martin.

He attended East Central University, Ada, OK, and worked for Dresser Industries as a Petroleum Mud Engineer for over 20 years. His career took him from above the Arctic Circle to offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. He worked in much of the western half of the United States from California to Louisiana. He was the mud engineer on the deepest well drilled in Colorado.

From 1979 to 1985, Mr. Martin established and managed his own company, Energy Fluids Technology (En-Flu-Tech). Headquartered in Shreveport, LA, he and his crew drilled many wells in the Ark-La-Tex area. He was recognized by many oil drilling companies as one of the most professional and knowledgeable mud engineers in the business. He was a senior member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Fern Bishop Peery. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Oma Lance Martin; children, Lori Estep (Mike), Fred Martin, Karen York (Jimmy) and Shelley Sands. Step-children, Gina Dewey (Steve), Diana Drummond (Rick), David Riggs (Raven), and Jason Riggs (Susie). Nephew and Niece: John Bishop (Melinda) and Mary Bishop.

Grandchildren are Michael and Joy Hutchison, Jerrod Estep (Rebecca), Tracy Estep (Angie), Sara and Katie Martin, Brett Rhoades, Lacy Tritten (Geoff), and Brianna Dupre. Maggie Pack (Ken), Aaron Joseph, Grace Griffitts (Jeff), Jason DeLue (Sara), Shannon Taylor (Chris), Steven Erickson (Carrie), Jamie Erickson, Lydia and Austin Riggs, Matt Gore and Emily Riggs. 30 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. He will be missed tremendously by his faithful companion for the past 14 years, his dog, Poncho.
