IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Holkum
January 30, 1934 – August 26, 2024
James Holkum
James Edward Holkum, age 90, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024 surrounded by loved ones in his home. James was born January 30th 1934 to James "Jim" Holkum and Ruby Stewart Holkum. He attended Fitzhugh schools and graduated in 1952. He served 2 tours of duty with the United States Army. After his discharge, he returned to the Fitzhugh area where he married Peggy Davenport on December 14th, 1962.
Together they had 3 children: Rick, Vicki, and Tina. James worked in the soil conservation field for many years in Wilburton, Oklahoma, eventually moving back to Ada in 1980 and continued in the same line of work until his retirement. James is survived by his 3 children: Richard (Rick) Holkum of Wilburton, OK, Vicki Holkum and Tina Holkum, both of Ada and one granddaughter, Delaney Holkum of Ada. He is also survived by one sister, Joyce Holkum Moore of Conway, Arkansas and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Holkum, his parents, one sister, Loretta Holkum Hatfield, and nephew and namesake Hoyt Edward Hatfield.
James was the type of man that when his name was mentioned, nothing but good words were said. He was a man of integrity, honor, and kindness. He had a great laugh and a contagious smile. He was handsome, hard-working and a good provider for his family. He cared about what you had to say and about how you were doing. "How's your family" started many a conversation with James. He loved OSU football, rodeos, crossword and Sudoku puzzles, fishing, western themed books, and softball. His happy place was the pond on his property where he spent many an hour just "piddling." As he used to say, it was his thinking place, his peaceful spot. James was loved by many and he will be missed by many. Per James' request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to one's favorite charity in James' memory or to Homer Baptist Church 13901 CR 3590 Ada, OK 74820.
