Obituary

James Jason Hammond went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2008 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma due to complications from a motorcycle accident on August 9, 2007. After battling his injuries for six months, Jason was finally released from the confinement of his body and his soul is free. But the manner of his death is simply a minor detail in a life that was so precious and will be so missed by those left behind. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church, Revs. David Gray and Gary Jamar.

Jason was born September 23, 1975 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to James David and Linda Wiley Hammond. He lived many places in his young life, but found a home after moving to Ada, Oklahoma, the birthplace of his father, in 1987 at age 11. Jason attended Ada City Schools, graduating in 1994. He played football through school and was a member of Ada High's sixteenth State Championship team his senior year. Jason went on to the University of Oklahoma, but found his interests lead him elsewhere and he took his time to explore them. He ultimately became the Design Engineer for Cammond Industries in Ada. He took pride in his work. He enjoyed it and the people with whom he worked. Jason was a tribal member of the Muscogee Creek Indian Nation and cherished his heritage.

Jason married Jennifer Nichols in 1999 and though they went their separate ways in 2005, they had three beautiful and amazing children together. Jason absolutely adored his children. He lived for them – Boy scouts and playing catch with Mannie, games and dress up with Isabel, and football with Zeke (naturally). An afternoon game of basketball in the driveway was always in the cards. He had such an ease with them.
They looked up to him, and truly, he looked up to them as well.

Jason was known being a very private person, hiding behind his mop of hair and a goatee of varying lengths. No one ever knew what he was thinking. He had a sheepish grin that could bring on a giggle, and a glare though his brow that could make you shudder. And when he said, "I love you," you knew he meant it.

For a time Jason faced personal struggles in his life, but he developed a humble hart and had overcome them. He found his path and become right with God. He loved music and guitar. He worked out incessantly and was an amazing cook. He even met a special person, Julie Weems, who has since become special to us all.

Sill, many of us believed he had much left to learn. We were wrong. God had a plan for him. It was the rest of us with much to learn. Because, in the end, through over 150 days of his injury and last days of his life, on the strength of his spirit alone, he had lessons for us. He taught us more about life, love, forgiveness and faith than any of us could have learned in our entire lifetimes. And we are each forever changed.

It has been said 'where there is love, there is life.' Jason is loved. And so Jason will not only continue to live, he will thrive. He will thrive in the smiles and laughter of his children, in the stories and memories of his friends, and in every breath of his parents and sister. We love you, Jason.

Jason is survived by his three children, Mannie, age 8, Isabel, age 5, and Zeke, age 3, all of Ada; his parents David and Linda Hammond, Ada; a sister Heather Hammond, Ada; a grandfather Jap Hammond, Ada; an aunt and uncle Judy and Gene Sams, Atoka; cousins Melissa Fleming, Sapulpa, Dr. Kristin Jordan and husband Shannon, Stillwater, Rodney Sams and wife Sonya, Madill, and Michael Sams and wife Alisha, Chandler; and special friend Julie Weems, Ada.

Jason was predeceased in death by grandparents Dorothy Hammond; Mannie Wiley; Wanda Wiley; and an aunt and uncle Karla and Jerry Fleming.
