JAMES BATES
ADA-Services for James H. Bates, 86, Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Dr. Pat Kilby and Rev. John Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Bates died Monday, November 30, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born November 19, 1923 at Sasakwa, Oklahoma to Homer Nat and Myrtle Lee Philpot Bates.
He married Charlotte Miller on November 25, 1951. Mr. Bates and his family moved back to Ada about 1955 from Lawton. He previously lived in New Mexico and California. Mr. Bates managed the Goodyear Tire Store and later was a partner in Bates Tire and Appliance. He started Bates Electronics in 1974 and he was a member of the First Baptist Church for 57 years. Mr. Bates served in the U. S. Army during World War II in England, France and Belgium.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Bates, of the home; three daughters, Vicky Gates and husband Dale, Pauls Valley, Belinda Kindrick and husband Kevin, Ada, and Karin Nuner and husband Phil, Stonewall; three sons, Ron Bates and wife Sandy, Ada, Tony Pallas and wife Linda, Ada, and Wayne Philpot and wife LaQuita, Ada; one sister, Jody Wade and husband Tommy, San Diego, CA; twelve grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Opal Bates.
Bearers will be Ben Coffey, Drew Dibler, James Bodine, Jeff Revels, Ryan Gilmartin and Tim Turner.
