J.R. JOHNSON

ADA-Services for J.R. Johnson, 83, Ada, are 2 p.m. Monday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, pastors Don Sayre and David Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Swan Hill Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at Criswell Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Johnson died Friday, March 30, 2012, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born March 27, 1929, to J.D. and Gladys McWhirter Johnson at Vanoss. He graduated from Ada High school in 1948 and was involved in several trades, including owning an oil field service company and a home building company. He was later employed by Rock and Waterscape Inc. that took him to Texas, California, Nevada, Aruba and South Africa. He retired in 1995. Mr. Johnson was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

He and Geneva Roddy Johnson were married Aug. 7, 1950, at Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva, of the home; four children, Nikki and Jerry Rupe of Dallas Texas, Kaye and Steve Ely of Ada, Leisa Austin of Rancho Mirage, California, and Richy and Kathy Johnson of Ada; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren with the ninth due in June; one sister, Norma Griggs of Alabama; a special brother-in-law, Phillip Roddy of Houston, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents Gladys and J.D. Johnson; grandparents, Lum and Pearl Johnson and Otis and Lela McWhirter.

Bearers are grandsons, Brian Rupe, Brandon Moore, Kris Stone, Bobby Pulley, Bodie Marion, and Chad Palmer. Honorary bearers are the Trinity Baptist Church Senior Men's Sunday School Class.

The family says those who wish, may make memorials to The American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association or to the charity of your choice.
