REV. HOLT SODEMAN
ADA-Services for Rev. Marion Holt Sodeman, 97, of Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, Dr. Pat. Kilby and Rev. John Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home
Rev. Sodeman died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at an assisted living center in Ada. He was born June 28, 1917 in Edgerton, Missouri to William R. and Jessie Lee Calvert Sodeman. He attended Mt. Zion grade school in Edgerton and graduated from high school in Edgerton, Missouri. He and his family moved to Ada in August, 1948 from Mountain Grove, Missouri.
He married Nita M. Simmons on August 2, 1939 in Warrensburg, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 22, 1999 in Ada. He later married Mary Catherine Close on August 12, 1999. Rev. Sodeman attended East Central University, Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX., and Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, KS. He served as a minister for 44 years. Rev. Sodeman pastored churches at Lovelady, Stonewall, Fittstown, Nashua, MO, Maud, Pawnee, Konawa, Orofina, ID, Centralia, WA, Billings, MT, and Queen Valley, AZ.. He was an Associate Pastor for hospital visitation and crisis situations at the Ada First Baptist Church in 1978-1979.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Catherine Sodeman, of the home; two daughters, Meredith Wort and husband John of Grand Junction, CO, and Janis Kidwell and husband Loy of Ada; his grandchildren, Alden Kidwell and wife Kelly, Thomas H. Kidwell and wife Kimberlee, Marian Kidwell Souza and husband Ricardo, Janalee Jordan Meldrum and husband Vince, Ashley Jordan and wife Laura, and Justin Wort and wife Heather; 17 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nita Sodeman; 2 brothers; and a sister.
Bearers will be his grandchildren.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to the First Baptist Church, Falls Creek Cabin, 521 S. Broadway, Ada, OK 74820.
