Obituary

Henry Leon Hughey, 89, of Ada, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024, in Sulphur. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, with Floyd Kaiser and Danny Stewart officiating. There will be a visitation for family and friends at Criswell's on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Leon was born on September 8, 1935, in Ada to Loran and Sarah Lou Summers Hughey. He married Jonell Christy on July 13, 1957. He was a lifelong resident of the Ada area and a member of the Southwest Church of Christ. Leon's faith was evident to everyone who knew him—not just in the words he spoke, but in the way he lived his life.

Leon was known for his strong work ethic and his reputation for honesty and integrity. For 43 years, he owned and operated Leon's Radiator Shop, where he earned the trust and respect of his customers. He was a man of his word, always putting people first and providing service with a smile.

Beyond his work, Leon was a man with a great sense of humor. He would often run into friends at the grocery store, and seize the opportunity to sneak a random item or two into a friend's shopping cart as a prank. His humor was a reflection of his warm, lighthearted spirit, and it made him unforgettable to those who crossed his path.

Leon was well-known for his gift of gab. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and loved staying in touch with friends and family, often spending hours on the phone catching up. His friendly, outgoing nature meant he never met a stranger and was always quick to make others feel welcome and valued.

Leon was also a man of many interests. He loved being involved in "projects" and often found ways to include others, whether they were eager to help or not. He was especially fond of gardening. He took great pride in planting, growing, and harvesting his favorite crop—tomatoes. One year he had a whopping 169 tomato plants and enjoyed sharing tomatoes with anyone who stopped by.

Above all else, Leon was a devoted and loving husband. There wasn't a man who loved his wife more than he did. His love for Jo was evident to everyone who knew them. Their bond was a beautiful example of true love, and Leon's deep love and affection for her remained steadfast throughout their 53 years together.

Leon was also immensely proud of his family and loved them with all his heart. Whether it was sharing stories, lending a hand with a project, or simply enjoying time together, Leon's family was his greatest joy. His legacy will live on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In the last few years Leon became reacquainted with an old friend, Noralene Groves, who brought much joy, laughter, and love to his heart again.

Leon leaves behind a legacy of faith, honesty, and hard work. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Leon is survived by his two daughters, Kelley Hughey and Sue Epperly; girlfriend, Noralene Groves; grandchildren, Claire Palmer and husband, Billy, T.J. Epperly and girlfriend, Peyton Johnson, and Gracie Nail and husband, Justin; and seven great grandchildren, Eli Epperly, Ivory Sue Epperly, Joe Epperly, Jaydon Palmer, Jayli Palmer, Jaylon Palmer, and Jayson Palmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loran and Sarah Lou Hughey; wife, Jonell Hughey; and little brother, Bobby Hughey.
