GAAR CORNER-Services for Henry Leftrage "H. L." Waters, 91, Gaar Corner are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Community Free Will Baptist Church in Pickett, Rev. John Henry Lippard will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Waters died Friday, June 5, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born September 27, 1917 at Ada, Oklahoma to Henry Leftrage and Minnie Overstreet Waters. He attended and graduated from Vanoss High School and he also attended East Central University.
He married Estaline Loretta Little on August 8, 1937 at Gaar Corner. Mr. Waters was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1937 until retiring in 1973. He and his wife moved to Gaar Corner in 1973. During his retirement he provided volunteer service to the Pontotoc County Jr. Livestock Show. He served as a Vanoss School Board Member, was a member of the Vanoss Booster Club, and an originating member of the Board of Directors of Pontotoc County Rural Water District #8. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years, an honorary chapter farmer for the Vanoss School FFA. and received recognition from Vanoss School as an Honorary Coach and Friend of Education. He was an honored member of the Ada Miniature Aircraft Club. He enjoyed many hobbies, including building and flying model airplanes. Mr. Waters was a member of the Community Free Will Baptist Church at Pickett.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Estaline Waters, of the home; one son, Joe Waters and wife Oma, Gaar Corner; one daughter, Ann Stevenson and husband Thomas, Gaar Corner; 10 grandchildren, Dixie Morris, Ada, Christi Holman and husband Fred, Melissa, TX, Renee Waters, St. Louis, MO, Mike Ingle, Oakland, CA, Chris Fellows, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; Susan Leubscher and husband George, Orlando, FL, Brad Stevenson, Elkins, WV, Tim Stevenson, Hollywood, CA, Tommy Stevenson, Sanford, FL, and Blanca Aguirre, Sanford, FL; twelve great grandchildren, Lacey Calvert and husband Stephen, Ada, Jordon Morris, Yucaipa, CA, Scout Morris, Ada, Rowdy Holman, Melissa, TX, Maya Juergens-Ingle, Josh Fellows and Sophie Fellows of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, Michael Leubscher, Orlando, FL, Tyler Stevenson, Hollywood, CA, and Dakota, Mackensie, Jasmine and Isabella Aguirre, all of Sanford, FL; one great great granddaughter, Aubrie Calvert, Ada; a sister-in-law, Joleeta Wallrath, Ft. Myers, FL; two nephews, Robert Wallrath and Richard Wallrath; and three great nephews, Mike, Robert and William Waters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Waters.
Bearers will be Cotton Holland, Bill Hoosier, Ronnie Mackey, Joe Summers, Bob Nessel, and Ed Coffey. Honorary bearers will be the members of the Ada Miniature Aircraft Club.
